Em/body explores how to motivate movement from individuals through visual and auditory reward. Using Kinect infrared sensors, an Arduino, Processing, and Max MSP, a user’s position and movement engage in versatile interactions with light and sound. These interactions progress as the user discovers and advances through stages of involvement within the sphere. Increasingly complex colors, rhythms, and sonic effects respond to various and specific body position and motion behaviors, influenced by Rudolf Laban’s movement analysis. Em/body invites the user to explore and play, ultimately developing a higher level of consciousness of the user’s own kinesthetics.
